Subject: [gentoo-dev] [proposal]distutils.eclass modified to work with virtual/python-2.1
Date: Thu, 20 Feb 2003 12:04:18 -0800 (PST)	[thread overview]
Message-ID: <20030220200418.98604.qmail@web21512.mail.yahoo.com> (raw)

Hi,

bug #13992 with an example ebuild #14004

Why is this needed?

zope-2.6.0* requires python-2.1.3. Some 3rd party
modules/products require extensions to python2.1.

Bug #13992 should help fix some of that, and it
doesn't require that other ebuilds to be modified. It
does require that ptyhon extensions need new
ebuilds(forked) for the python2.1 slot though. (e.g.
egenix-mx-base-py21-2.0.4.ebuild)

This way it's possible to emerge an extension to
virtual/python and virtual/python-2.1. This a bit of
a hack, until a feature like this is built into
portage.

What do you think?
