Bunch of wusses, can't even install a system...  ;)

hehe, okay, actually I do need a 3x5" card with a list of files to
remember to edit before I install grub and reboot the system, and it
certainly would be more convenient if there was some silly script to
automate the final steps a bit, but IMO it'd be better to work on the
existing tools which get used every day like etc-update.

Improving the livecd or the chroot installation could be cool, I just
think there are more important things for those who have the skills
necessary to really simplify the install process to work on.  They may
disagree, of course.  =)


Another thing to keep in mind..  Most of the "simple" Linux distributions
either work or they don't.  One of the strengths of Gentoo is that since
there's no installer, it's pretty easy to fix anything that doesn't work
with your setup.  I think that some people would object to losing that,
and they'd be quite right to do so.
