Trying to update to perl-5.8.0-r8 yields the following error:

 * Cannot find $EPATCH_SOURCE!  Value for $EPATCH_SOURCE is:
 * 
 *   /var/tmp/portage/perl-5.8.0-r8/work/patch

Anybody know how to fix this?
