Heyas, not sure what update did it, but somehow this has happened to my
KDE.. not that I use it, but if it happens to me it might happen to
others.

My system isn't "clean" in the least, I've been playing with a lot of
unstable things, including prelinking, and only recently am I trying to
restore the solid ~testing setup.

Ideas?

Start with setting up a decent /etc/fonts/fonts.conf if it's not there. Also
an upgrade to freetype-2.1.3 might help because that version can eat
compressed bitmap fonts. (.pcf.gz which are most of the default fonts in
freetype)

Wish it was that simple. the fonts.conf is clean (I removed it, and
fontconfig, and then reinstated them) as is the freetype (remove and
reinstate at the same time as fontconfig) so those shouldnt be the case
here.. I've run fc-cache and all appears good with verbose logging.

i've removed all of my ~/.kde and started over, and most of my system is
as up-to-date as can be.

AA fonts work in Gnome (2) and appears to be doing ok, so I'm a tad
uncertain here.

bah, I can't believe that I didn't post that in the first place, sorry
'bout that.

kde-base/kdebase-3.0.5a-r1 *
kde-base/kdelibs-3.0.5a *
x11-libs/qt-3.1.0-r1 *
x11-libs/xft-2.0.1-r1 *
media-libs/fontconfig-2.1-r1 *
x11-base/xfree-4.2.1-r2 *
media-libs/freetype-1.3.1-r3 *
media-libs/freetype-2.1.3-r2 *

I've re-merged qt and kdelibs, will try all of them now..
