With regards to the new mailing list system, is there a reason this change
could not have been announced BEFORE the change was made? I understand the
need and desire for a quick change, and in that regards it appears that
things went well.
However, I was rather surprised to find my mailboxes filling up with gentoo
mailing list mail (which I had on hold) this morning. Had I been on
vacation (as I was until recently) my mailbox would have quickly filled up
and been unable to receive to new mail (as I do not have a large email
quota).
In the future, PLEASE let subscribers know when this is going to happen so
they can take appropriate measures. I think it was very irresponsible of
the Gentoo team to do this in the manner in which they did.
Sincerely,
Jackson Fox

I strongly agree with this.
My inbox got up to over 100 messages in my inbox, and me going, why am I
suddenly so popular? Then to realize, it was gentoo-user's mailing-list, a
mainstream highly-active list, being stuffed in my normal inbox, because
Mailman used a standard List-Id header, while ezmlm, uses practically no
standard methods at all.
Generally, if a mailing-list follows no standards, I unsubscribe to them
swiftly. I've just unsubscribed to these lists due to this. A mailing-list is
supposed to organize mail at the server. When this isn't done, a mailing-list
is broken or just not worth using. (for example, I don't subscribe to
Marjodomo lists. They still follow no standards at all..)
But, anyway, this is my loud complaint, and my goodbye to the lists. Bad move.

It does. Every email contains this header line :
Mailing-List: contact gentoo-dev-help@gentoo.org; run by ezmlm
So you just have to test if "Mailing-List" contains "gentoo-dev"... ;)
PS : I agree with you guys complaining about the change without notice.

ezmlm has got the functions of the maillist-list ... but it's not being used.
I have been on many ezmlm lists and even ran a few myself ... it works fine ..
just needs to be setup correctly ..
don't knock the software when it's not setup according to standards!
