Hi Fellow Gentoo'ers
Due to the large amount of spam that has been hitting the gentoo lists as of
late, all of the Gentoo mailing lists have been changed to subscriber only
mode or are in the process of being changed.
What this means is, if your email account that you are sending to the lists is
not subscribed to the list that you are posting to your email will be
rejected and will not be posted to the list.
Messages rejected will be put on hold for moderator approval and may or may
not be approved for posting depending on content. If this doesn't seem fair
to you, I'd suggest subscribing to the list then =)
Thank you,
Kevyn Shortell

Is there actually some moderator now?

Excellent! Does that we can have munging back, so we only have to hit
"Reply" to reply to the list?

If this message arrives, then there are moderators. In fact I've already
had a message moderated.
But something I wonder with this new policy is: "does it still makes
sense to appear on "gmame" (a NNTP interface to various mailing list)?"
I consult the list on gmame, because it is easier for doing it at home
and at work, but if I can't post anymore without disturbing moderators,
I will surely subscribe. And I think I'm not alone in that case, so
maybe gmame is obsolete now.

well, since the munging fixed the problem of full mail boxes spamming the
list, and those mailboxes (and IIRC the sender of the resulting bounce
messages) are subscribed to the list, I don't think going to a
subscriber-only mailing list would prevent that problem for returning if they
turn munging back off.
Jean.

I was using gmane, but I've now subscribed to the mailing lists instead
to get around this. Fortunately, the reasons I wanted NNTP access to the
list no longer apply to me, so this is not a problem for me. However, if
post only subscriptions can be sorted (something I understand is being
looked into) it would allow people to set up full access through gmane.

Can we have alternate accounts added (manually) as "always accept". I for
the most part always post fromt the same address, but members of my mailing
list have a couple of cases where I have overridden that restriction for
them.

No, only for posts to non-members. Then it sits in the queue waiting for
the person at gentoo-dev-admin@gentoo.org (or for whatever list) to decide
what to do with the posting.
