Hi

I'm a software developer, my main focus is on Macintosh and Linux development.
Mostly user interfaces on mac, and server apps on linux. That means using
linux on Intel hardware, since it's far cheaper. (very important on the third
world).

Of course, at home i want to use linux also as a workstation, not only as
servers, so i installed linux on my iMac; first YellowDog, but after trying
to upgrade from KDE 2 to 3, it became a whole mess of dependencies, and
incomplete packages.

Then, i found you had a PPC version of your distro; and it was perfect!! easy
to upgrade, and easy to configure to have exactly what i need, and no more.
I've been using it for servers on Intel too (instead of SuSE)

but i think now you're forgetting about the PPC plattform, after having SPARC.

first, it was with KDE 3.0.3; it has been available for some weeks now, and
you have it on the portage system... but only for x6. why? it has been
compiled and tested on all plattforms!

today i wanted to see if there was an update to kdevelop. but i found it's
Masked!! but i have been using it for months now!

why???

looking in the .ebuild files, it says it's for x86 and sparc. but i had it
installed on ppc before!

please! don't forget the PPC platform!

and it would also be nice if you had any indication why all those packages are
masked... it's so frustrating to read about some nice software for linux,
doing an emerge -s to see it's there, but not for me!

remember... not everbody is using MacOS X

Javier

If KEYWORDS doesn't contain 'ppc', it's because we havent testing the new
ebuild on ppc. You can still build the package by:
	# emerge /path/to/foo-1.0.ebuild

If it is successful or not successful, please email
gentooppc-dev@gentoo.org saying that it merged (or didnt merge) and what
compiler you're using.

We haven't forgotten anyone ;) But as owen says, we can use the help testing
stuff..things have been a little hectic with the upcoming release, but are
starting to all fall into place.

Glad you like the distro :)

The distro is very cool (I am not the guy this remark was meant for, BTW ;).
I was just wondering if anyone had posted a "what's comming in 1.4" page or
something? There are a few directions that I hope Gentoo might move in and
am curious.

Any ETA? ;)

Evan.
