Hi;
Just some feedback:
Since emerge automaticly cleans on rsync, I have been
using PORTDIR_OVERLAY="/usr/local/portage" in make.conf, and it
is working very nicely so far. I like this feature:)

I too like this feature. I find that I make lots of ebuilds just to
try out something. If I able to construct an ebuild that works and
is not "sketchy", I submit it to Gentoo. If I can't get it working
I disable it.
I stumbled upon a way to disable it which still informs me of its
presence. If you append a period '.' to the end of the ebuild name
it will show up as [ Masked ] during an 'emerge -s <name>' command.
$ cd /usr/portage.local/app-office/gbib/
$ mv gbib-0.1.1b.ebuild gbib-0.1.1b.ebuild.
$ emerge -s gbib
Searching...
[ Results for search key : gbib ]
[ Applications found : 1 ]
* app-office/gbib [ Masked ]
