[gentoo-dev] Installing Gentoo Linux without internet?

Is it possible to install Gentoo Linux on a machine that doesn't have
internet? I could download the system and the portage tree at ny
university and burn it to CDs, but how would I go about to get it into
my PC? I have used Red Hat and Debian earlier.

Yes, definitely. However if you will need to upgrade the system you will need 
to perform the CD dance again (not that you wouldn't do it otherwise anyway).

"Questions, Comments, Corrections? Email gentoo-dev@gentoo.org."  

It also doesn't say anywhere that you have to be subscribed to the
list first or read the mailing list archives to get any answers.

Ah HA!!!  I had wondered why the dev list was getting things that should be on
gentoo-newbie@gentoo.org.  Think the contact email on the website should be
changed?  ;)

That is what it says, so you're doing what you should do. We don't have a
mailing list policy, so it's essentially free-for-all. The -dev/-user
split currently serves little purpose except allow for cross-posting.

That's not to say we're not going to get a suitable mailing list policy in
the future. Currently, it's just not on the top of our priority list.

As we've disabled the horrible reply-to munging, you don't have to do
subscribe or be forced to read the web archives anymore, as long as people
follow their mailers' default practice about replying to all senders, you
will get a proper and timely response.
