Hello,

On one of my gentoo, /usr/share/locale is about 75 MB but
the locale I use is only 4 MB...

Maybe it would be useful to be able to tell (via make.conf
for example) emerge/ebuild which locales to install.

I first thought it could be done within ebuilds with most
configure scripts (something like --with-locales=) but it
looks like I was wrong as there is no such option :-(

Any idea ?

I couldn't find any information in the excellent gentoo guides about 
localization, so I added the following file at /etc/env.d/02i18n.  It 
seems to work OK.  Is it in the right place?

SYSFONTACM=iso15
LC_CTYPE=en_GB
LANGUAGE=en_GB:en
LC_MONETARY=en_GB
LC_COLLATE=POSIX
LC_NUMERIC=en_GB
SYSFONT=lat0-16
