First, you need to take your question to gentoo-newbies as gentoo-dev is for
development. You question isn't related to development.
Then, find out what kernel module your scsi controller uses. Try <name of controller>
and <linux module> in www.google.com Please change <name of controller> to the actual
name of your controller, eg adaptec 29160
Last load the module
modprobe <name of controller>
modprobe sd_mod
If in doubt post another question to gentoo-newbies
