I'm trying to install Gentoo from "stage1" tarball, from a Linux in another partition, without booting CD, but I got this error when executing "scripts/bootstrap.sh": --------------------------- ACCESS VIOLATION SUMMARY --------------------------- LOG FILE = "/tmp/sandbox-binutils-2.11.92.0.12.3-r2-4607.log" open_wr: /root/tmp/cNf4623.com open_wr: /root/tmp/cNf4623.hst open_wr: /root/tmp/cNf4623.tgt open_wr: /root/tmp/cNf4623.pos -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I got the error while compiling binutils. It was because my $TMP and $TMPDIR environment variable was both setted up to "/root/tmp". I'm using Mandrake 8.1, where temp dir is $HOME/tmp, not /tmp. But I setted TMP="/tmp" and TMPDIR="/tmp" and it seems it works now. Installation stills in progress, anyway (I'm downloading gcc). I only wanted to inform us about this little incident. Thanks PD: I met Gentoo in http://www.barrapunto.com, spanish version of Slashdot
