hi!

due to the youth of my notebook i tried 2.5.13 for better acpi and
other things. sad thing is, that gentoo doesn't really boot up. first
it stopped ad cardmgr (okay, removed that one from boot-process,
kernel should be doing fine itself ;), then it stopped at syslog
(well, i'd like to have logging but not by all means) then it died
trying to startup gdm/X - which is really a problem.

does anyone have a 2.5.x kernel running with gentoo? are there any
known incompatibilities? (i know that the kernel is unstable, but
syslog and gpm making problems is not too deep in the kernel i'd
think)

What laptop brand is it? There are some known issues with APIC being installed
into laptop kernels... more information would help.

to recall the words of Ryan Phillips:

It's a Sony Vaio PCG-GRX316G (P4-1.6GHz with Intel 845 Chipset, Radeon
7500 graphics)

there are no error-messages during kernel-booting, the APIC messages
seem to be okay - at least compared to 2.4.1[8-9]*, where i get lots
of error messages concerning ACPI, as follows:

evxfevnt-0081 [02] Acpi_enable : Transition to ACPI mode
successful
Executing device _INI methods:..............evregion-0302 [21]

AE_ERROR
.evregion-0302 [22] Ev_address_space_dispa: Region handler: AE_ERROR
[System_memory]

and so on, for many, many lines ;))

I will try a gentoo/2.5.x installation on an ordinary PC (as soon as i
can organize it) with older hardware trying to reproduce the problems.
