Hi,
i remeber something about profiles etc...
During the update process i realized how the new profile stuff could
work. If I understand correctly, then the world file in /var/cache/edb
is "just" the "world" profile, containing the whole system.
I'd be cool if one can make additional profiles, fx. the profile "X",
which has x11-base/xfree and kde-base
then you can specify
# emerge --update X
wait a couple hours and have the newest version of X installed without
having touched the rest of the system.
This is especially handy, when installing a number of systems with the
same packages. Create a profile, copy the new profile to /var/cache/edb
on the new machine and after you emerged the system do
#emerge <profile>
and ready you are...
what is the status of that?
the new portage is GREAT!

Thilo
