Dear team,

have been looking at gentoo for a while and decided to try it out.

but fortune is not at my hand.

at home i only have a dail-up connection, so thats no option.

at work (T-veryfast) i downloaded both the ix86 iso and the 600mb
i586-build iso.

the latter boots, lets me set the whole thing up (NO ext3 !). but
following the online or onCD install help i encounter some problems.
(i think the prebuild is outdated compared to the helpfile). been able
to continue

but the main problem is. i cant get dhcpcd to connect to my
bosses novell dhcp server. it just times out. i've tryed it all. -r / -h
hostname / ifconfig options..... etc etc.

even tried the newest small ix86 iso (downloaded today) , and tried
to force emerge to look on the cd etc etc.
but i end up withup a system (cant bootstrap)

so, i'm stuck.
but really really wanna try your work.

1. whats up with dhcpcd ? why cant it connect?
2. any plans for a more up-to date 650 mb iso ?
3. can one get pump updated into the isolinux env?

plz help.
yours c.
s. frankema.

what i did is the following - i used an existing linux system, booted the gentoo cd and mounted one of the existing partitions to /usr/portage/distfiles and did all the emerge --fetchonly <your package here> i could think of.

then i burned the /usr/portage/distfiles directory on cd and took home were i build my gentoo system

lots of work, but it pays offlman/listinfo/gentoo-dev
