Major ACPI updates ... havent worked since 2.4.17-r5.

I am running the new kernel and I still get the patch error from acpid.

Note: if this is something that the ACPI guys at Intel should know
about, submit a bug report at http://www.sourceforge.net/projects/acpi. 
They are very responsive to bug reports.

Someone had posted, about a month ago, that acpid worked with a vanilla 
2.4.17 kernel, eluding to the problem be one of the patches in the 
Gentoo kernel.  I can't confirm or deny this, but, if I get the time 
I'd like to track down the problem.

Responding to this thread from a month ago--the problem's not yet fixed.
I am running 2.4.17-r5 with compiled support for apm and acpi. 
apm is "disabled" by the presence of acpi. And acpi gives the famous
error when I run acpid, 
acpid: this kernel does not support proper event file handling. 
etc. 

The acpi patch doesn't seem to work, and I'll have to go to apm for now
on my sony xg29 vaio laptop.
