Because XML requires a whole new bloated, slow parser, and the python
parser is fast and the syntax is lean and mean. Also, if we port to
C, it would be more effective to support "python-style" dictionary
definitions that include and entire XML parser. Also consider that
XML has no equivalent of python dictionaries.
