Subject: [gentoo-dev] Why don't we do --enable-shared with binutils ?
Date: Sat Oct 20 17:53:02 2001 [thread overview]

Hi gang.
This is probably mostly for drobbins, since he packaged binutils.
Why does the ebuild not have --enable-shared by default (we could turn it
off if USE static is in effect) ? Some programs, such as jrockit (a
commercial JVM) depends on libbfd.so which is not compiled without
--enabled-shared.
If there is no particular reason for this, I'll add it and append -r1 to
the very latest binutils (.27), unless you drobbins want to.
Kind regards,
Karl T
