[Kevin Gordon]

Has anyone else been able to configure and use evolution?

With version 0.9 entering menu item "mail configuration" would cause an
application crash.

With version 1.0 the compiler fails at file: e-minicard-view.c

Any comments would be appreciated.

You should use version 0.10 but the problem is there with 0.10 too.
I got it to work when disabling LDAP-support. Also be sure to have GAL
0.7 installed (gnome-base/gal/gal-0.7.ebuild) and not a later one. The
evolution ebuild-script should check for this but doesn't.

I have some fealings this will not do all the work for you. But you
can try and if it doesn't please let me know and I'll look into it.

You need libxml2 installed for this version. I will add the depend.

This may verywell be related to the other gnome-libs related problems I've
been seeing.

There are some issues here. The latest released version of Evolution
is 0.10 (which only works with GAL 0.7). The CVS-version of Evolution
uses GAL 0.8.99 (I think it is). I think that we could be able to
check out the cvs-version of Evolution and create a package for
it. Haven't had time to see if there are other dependencies that will
break if we use latest Evolution and I don't know what will happen to
for example Gnumeric if we use GAL 0.8.99.

Yes Emerge did include libxml2-2.3.9

OK, just edit /usr/lib/portage/pym/portage.py and change gnome-extras to gnome-extra.

You may need to add in a comma after the entry to maintain array syntax.

Might be an idea to remerge portage though regardless of version number.

gnome-extra is a new catagory, so if you have a old version of portage,
any package using something in there as a DEPEND will
be broken.

Please update to the latest portage (portage-1.6.9.2).

finally got emerge thru --- shell error cant initialize bonobo something ...
foundout that wombat was segfaulting in the background jeeee
so i did this
rm -rf /opt/gnome
rm -rf /usr/portage
emerge rsync
emerge .../evolution...
emerge .../gnome ...

"sh**t" i should have emerged gnome 1st [should be ok anyway] ... but it takes so much time ...i 'll re-doit tonight ...

btw still not starting (evolution) !

i've been runing this rc4 for a while it's been so good to me (it's my q3 fraging machine).... so long .. it's gonna go i'm afraid !

i whish a good day to all of us.

version >= 2" . Tried "emerge net-nds/openldap" received version 1.? Is the
openldap version 2 not available (masked)?

openldap-2. Try to unmask it in profiles/package.mask.

Before not know why it is disabled, You should re-activate the flag 
after emerge evolution.

Actually, sebastian gave you the complicated advice.  Easier way would be to
edit /etc/make.conf and remove ldap from the USE variable.  Generally
speaking, you don't want to uncomment stuff in package.mask unless you're
willing to do some debugging :)
