hi !

being fed up of starting wvdial as root, i found that
an ordinary user, though in group dialout, can't use wvdial
properly, because of lack of permissions for /var/lock.
by default it is root.uucp
i changed it to root.dialout,
but i assume that's not the best way to solve the problem...
any suggestions ?

thanks and ciao
peter

hi !

err, nope, that's not the kind of solution i'm after...
pppd is already a suid-binary, and wvdial should work
with the good old unix-style groups-mechanism.

i'm gonna have a look how debian does that.
they have a group "dip", but i don't know, what was
that good for again ??
