Did you add the NIS entry to your /etc/passwd, /etc/group, and /etc/shadow files? at the end of /etc/passwd you should have: +:::::: at the end of /etc/group you should have: +::: at the end of /etc/shadow you should have: +:::::::: You can insert stuff between the colons to regulate who can login and such, but you should probably look at the manual to figure out how to do that...this should at least get you running if that's what the problem is.
