i can't boot the CDR with the 620mg image burt on it. i'd like to
install gentoo on a p200 w/ a 10x toshiba cd-rom and a 9150 HP
burner. neither will boot it. is there some way of booting with a
floppy?

Did you remember to fixate the disk after you burned it. You'll need to
do that if you want to boot/use it on a cdrom other than the one that
you burned the iso on.
