Subject: [gentoo-dev] new portage
Date: Thu Mar 22 20:46:01 2001	[thread overview]
Message-ID: <20010322204514.B32003@cvs.gentoo.org> (raw)

Hi All,

There's a new version of portage on CVS (1.5_pre8) for interested beta testers.
This version includes a new program called "emerge" that can be used to merge
packages and their dependencies:

# emerge foo-1.0.ebuild

or

# emerge --pretend foo-1.0.ebuild

...to see a list of what would be merged (excellent for testing dependencies)

To use this new version, you'll need to create the following symlink:

# cd /etc
# ln -s /usr/portage/profiles/default make.profile

Let me know what you think -- and remember, this is a test version, so it's not
guaranteed to be perfect (but works for me).

Best Regards,
