No, symlinking sucks for various reasons. Here are some:
- filesystem access is slow
- moving packages from one category to another gets even worse because
you have to check for deadlinks
- you have to check for deadlinks anyway because people forget to remove
them when removing packages
- good luck with that on Gentoo/Prefix-Interix
