No, it was released less than 24 hours ago. "Recently" would have been 
something like a week or two.

I have to say that this is by far one of the "best" 0-day bump reports 
I've seen in a long time...

When we feel it's ready and when most outstanding bugs are solved.

The Gnome 2.21/22 series of packages have been available for months in 
the gnome overlay. If you want to try it out on an ~ system, use layman 
and knock yourself out.

The git repository is here :

   http://git.overlays.gentoo.org/gitweb/?p=proj/gnome.git;a=summary

You can emerge and setup app-portage/layman and then use it to manage 
the Gnome overlay using the following command :

   layman -a gnome

Things to remember :
  - don't try to install Gnome 2.22 on a *stable* system. If you do and 
things break, you get to keep all the pieces.
  - if you have bugs, don't report them here, use bugzilla with the 
Gnome component.
