I just added jed and bluefish to CVS.  Boy, I wish
people would use DESTDIR in their makefiles!

Um, dunno!  My gut instinct is that there's an unfortunate interaction
between the version of Jed and the version of slang, but I have no
actual evidence on that.  If you find out please let me know, and
we can try to fix it.
