Hi,

I've put together a working ebuild for the backport of Kontact from KDE-3.2
(screenie on http://dev.gentoo.org/~stuart/screenies/) and I'm now looking
for people interested in testing it out and reviewing the ebuild (I don't
know a lot about compiling KDE stuff ;-)

If you're interested, drop me an email, and I'll send you back the ebuild.

Best regards,
Stu

Kudos, Stuart. Your Kontact ebuild installed flawlessly here last night. No
errors; no gotchas (P3, 1GHz Inspiron 8000, up-to-date on ~x86). Recommend,
based on my experiences along, to add the build to the "unstable" tree so
more users can test.

OT, to anyone with experience. I'm trying to build Kolab server on a RHEL
box (taroon). Followed the howto, but the process falls down at the
"install the *src.rpm's as user kolab.

Anyone BTDT? Appreciate any guidance or insight. Off-list is probably
appropriate; if I resolve my problem, I'll document the workaround and post
a URL here.

Best,
/tom

Works flawlessly for me.....
Actually I'm writing this email from kontact.

Thanx.

Hi everyone,

I just want to say a big 'thank you' to everyone who has taken up my offer of
testing the Kontact ebuild. My apologies if I haven't replied to thank you
in person! There was a lot more interest than I imagined ;-)

Here's the current situation on the ebuild, as I understand it.

The ebuild itself appears to install Kontact just fine (after a couple of
typos in the DEPEND were fixed ;-), and Kontact appears to work very well
too. I've had one report of a possible gcc-3.3-related problem to do with
the pilot-link dependency, one report that the OpenGPG plugins may not work
(although they do on my machine), and one report that Kolab may not like
glibc-2.3.1-r4. Other than that, things seem to be good with the ebuild
itself.

After talking with pauldv from the KDE, we've agreed that this ebuild can go
into Portage - but it will remain masked for the time being. This version of
Kontact overwrites parts of the original KDE install, and this is against our
ebuild policy. pauldv has volunteered to look into what it would take to
create an accompanying kdenetwork ebuild that could be used to help Kontact
be more compliant.

On the Kolab front, Erik Gjertsen has emailed me with details of a Kolab
client ebuild, which I'm hoping to get to look at over the weekend. There's
no news yet of a Kolab server ebuild.

Best regards,
Stu

If you unmerge kontact, as I did because I had glibc-2.3.1-r4, it stuffs
up kdenetwork and kdepim: both have to be remerged.

I'll be trying kontact again because I bit the bullet, scrapped winex
and upgraded glibc.

Hello,

As promised, here's my feedback about your ebuild.

There is a typo in your ebuild, i think you meant fontconfig (one word)
instead of font-config ?

It works like a treat :)
