Another last rites mail for media apps... this is also the start of the end.

media-plugins/rmxxms is currently -* and p.masked, requires using realsdk and
is probably obsolete/outdated. Noone is working on this afaik, XMMS has
currently no upstream and there's no maintainer.

One week from now, rmxmms will be out of portage.

Please note: if in one week or a bit more nobody steps up for maintaining XMMS
in portage, I'll start a phase out of XMMS itself, this means closing all its
new plugins' ebuilds as WONTFIX, and then starting masking plugins with bugs
open to remove them.

We're plenty of alternatives :)

After talking with Diego i will maintain xmms packages (including
plugins and skins). I will remove a few obsolete packages and closing a
few bugs asap.

Your mail triggered me to search for alternatives. Any suggestion? Currently
checking mpd and its frontends. At first glance, they all seem a bit limited.
But I like the approach with a separate core for the player logic...

/A

Umm... WTF? Is XMMS inherently broken or something? Is upstream dead?
Are there huge security bugs on it? If not, then you shouldn't go
removing it. I know that I'd be pretty pissed if my favorite multimedia
application suddenly disappeared.

Excellent. I was getting a bit worried that my favorite multimedia
application was about to be removed for no good reason. Thanks for
deciding to maintain this package.

eradicator did an amazing job maintaining xmms packages i hope i will
continue to maintain it good as well. Xmms is full of bugs for now i
will do a few version bumps and close a few bugs. I think is a good time
to split xmms plugins to xmms and bmp plugins. This is a work i will do
with Chainsaw(bmp maintainer).
