Gentoo Developers and Maintainers,

The OpenAFS unstable ebuilds have been woefully out of date for the last
several months, and do not even contain the early versions of the 1.3.x
server that are needed for kernel 2.6 compatibility. There have been bugs
filed on this topic and user-created ebuilds are available: why haven't these
been added into portage for testing by the community?

The bug reports do not seem to be helping with this matter. Are more package
maintainers needed before this package can be kept up-to-date, or are the new
ebuilds being held back intentionally? If someone would be kind enough check
up on this package, it would be much appreciated, for those of us trying to
maintain a working network without being burried in manual updates.

That was probably me. I don't mind taking it over, I use it actively for
work so keeping it current would probably be in my best interest. I will
look at the open issues this week and see what I can do about it.

I must have skipped over that past when it was orginally sent.

Disgraceful. Where's the Gentoo spirit in using antiquated software?

If no one else is willing to maintain the package, I volunteer to do so.

Hi List-

Thanks for the help I've gotten in the past from you folks.

It's been more than a month since this thread was written and I don't
see anything in my recently synced portage, so I'm contributing this:
http://www.gnosys.us/openafs-ppc_linux26.ebuild.tar.gz

Making these changes to the ebuild (I based this ebuild file on the one
in portage for version 1.2.11) and patching these files from the 1.3.74
release makes this work for me (NewWorld PBG4 Titanium II, 7450 altivec
cpu, 667 MHz). The included /etc/init.d/afs file needs some major
attention to make it functional for other sysnames with 2.6, and I
created /usr/vice/etc/cacheinfo by hand rather than allowing the script
to create it because that didn't seem to work for me (the third
parameter for cachesize doesn't get set up properly).

It's a hack and I'm sure could be improved upon by some expert Gentoo
developer, but it works anyway. This has only been tested on
ppc_linux26 and has not been exhaustively tested on that so use at your
own risk. Note that support for the 2.6 kernels is still incomplete.
PAGs are not fully supported. Expect a warning during configure about
sys_call_table status. See OpenAFS lists and web pages for details.

Also, has anyone done any work on building Ken Hornstein's (et. al.)
code for using MIT Kerberos 5 as an authentication source for OpenAFS?
See tarball at:
ftp://ftp.cmf.nrl.navy.mil/pub/kerberos5/afs-krb5-2.0.tar.gz

In particular, aklog (used for obtaining AFS tokens based on Kerberos
tickets) is something that I'm trying to build right now and having
difficulty. If anyone has done this in Gentoo I'd really appreciate
hearing about it.

HTH.

Thanks for mentioning this. I found her stuff in bugzilla but it looks
to me like it won't work with ppc_linux26, so I added a pointer in
bugzilla to the changes I did.
