Good day,
 as obexftp ebuild is now unmaintained (no-herd in metadata.xml), I'd like to
ask if anyone objects to me taking on the maintainership.

Same applies to dev-libs/openobex - this one doesn't even have metadata.xml.

I would hate to see those packages unmaintained - since I use both ;)

You can normally take those packages. You might want to look at the 
changelog to see who touched those files (significantly - not keywording) 
in recent times and ask them, but if you're willing to maintain them that 
would be great.
