Okay, seems there's not a real firm concensus on net-www vs. net-news for
rss readers. So, I'm now suggesting a net-rss category. There are already
about 10 rss readers that can go there, and probably more to come. Most
people that I've talked to so far are okay with this idea.

Do you really have to create another category?
We currently group things in about 118 categories (way to many in my
book) where debain has managed all these years with <=20 categories.

I wrote a little script to help in this decision. It suggests a range
for category sizes, based on the average size plus or minus a multiple
of the standard deviation (SD). The default multiple is 1/2 the SD.

The conclusions are: If you have a category larger than the suggested
max, split it. If it's smaller than the suggested min, don't create it.

Perhaps the SD multiple is worth arguing over, but 1/2 seemed
reasonable, based on the results.

Another thing to consider is that one of the goals of categories is to
make the tree browseable. Therefore we should keep the number of things
to be browsed roughly equal at every level. So the number of categories
should be roughly equal to the average number of packages per category.

Anyway, there's a couple of things to think about.

If we had nested categories, things would be easier perhaps. But we don't ;-)

net-rss or www-clients - pick one, and please get the packages moved. But
don't put anything new in net-www.

Best regards,
Stu

I thought this already got discussed? www-client seems like a fine place
to me, it's empty cat atm anyway (why do these categories get created
when there's only a few packages using it).

Because I've been doing little things like successfully running a conference,
and covering for absent devs. And because the things to be moved into there
are major packages such as mozilla, and I'd prefer to be a little less busy
before tackling that.

You could be nice and helpful and move any Gnome packages out of net-www into
www-clients to save me the trouble. It really wouldn't kill you, you know.

Best regards,
Stu
