  Hi!

I just noticed that bison 1.875 has been added to portage and want to
inform you that PHP only works with bison versions up to 1.75.

  Thanks,
Sebastian

Care to file a bug at http://bugs.gentoo.org/ about it? It's usually
the best way to notify people, *and* ensure it doesn't get forgotten
(usually).
Offhand, I'm curious which version of php and the reason for the
incompatibility...
thanks.

Sorry for not doing so directly.

Both the current PHP 4 releases as well as the PHP 5 development tree
are incompatible with bison versions newer that bison 1.75.

  Greetings,
Sebastian

Right, but usually its due to not 100% proper syntax, etc (if looking
at issue we had with xfree, etc). Anyhow, MDK is using bison-1.875,
and RH as well if not mistaken - we should be able to grab patches from
there for php ...

These patches would certainly be of interest to us so that we could
integrate them into the PHP development tree.

Dunno, it 'seems' to work fine here, but then I am no php expert

  Doesn't work here:

    sb@wopr-mobile:/usr/src/php/php5/ > bison --version
    bison (GNU Bison) 1.875

    sb@wopr-mobile:/usr/src/php/php5/ > ./sapi/cli/php --version
zsh: 8611 segmentation fault ./sapi/cli/php --version

  Greetings,
Sebastian

My bad. The PHP distribution archives contain pre-generated scanners /
parsers so flex and bison are not invoked.

This is only an issue when building from CVS, then.
