You should create a symbolic link in "/usr/src" called "linux" which is "linked to" the kernel you are compiling the modules for. I've had exactly this problem when I switched from the gentoo-sources to the gentoo-gaming-sources, I'd forgot to change the "/usr/src/linux"-link to point to the gaming- sources.
