Hi !
Maybe having a look at cups log file would help.
If not, you should set LogLevel in cups.conf to
'debug' (instead of 'info' probably)
Good luck :-)

For my HP DeskJet 845C USB printer I have installed:
ghostscript-7.05.5
cups-1.1.17_pre20021025
foomatic-2.0.0
hpijs-1.2.2-r2
The web interface at localhost:631 doesn't see any hpijs drivers.
KDE Print Manager does, but a test print produces postscript script:
%!PS-Adobe-3.0 %%BoundingBox: 0 0 612 792 %%Pages: 1 ...
... before I switch off the printer.
The printer works OK with the CUPS+GIMP-print driver but hpijs is supposed to
provide the best output for deskjets - it does on Mandrake too.
Thoughts, anyone?

Thanks for the reply Sylvain. I had the log level set to 'debug' in cups.conf
but it didn't report anything interesting, other than...

Peter,
I was having the same problem you have just yesterday (tried KDE and CUPS
web-interface only showed CUPS+GIMP drivers). The gentoo printing howto
(http://www.gentoo.org/doc/printing-howto.html) says to first run foomatic
and after that cups (using the same name for the queue - lp in my case). For
me that didn't work.... as I found out, when running CUPS web-server it will
_replace_ the foomatic created ppd file which I copied to
/etc/cups/ppd/lp.ppd. The first page of this file should contain the name of
the
driver used:
---
*NickName: "HP PhotoSmart P1218, Foomatic + hpijs"
---
after running cups this line said CUPS+GIMP (this is the line CUPS show you
when adding the printer) instead of hpijs.
My solution was to mv the foomatic generated file _again_ after having told
CUPS that I had a printer 'lp' with the CUPS+GIMPS driver (through the
web-interface, KDE didn't really help).
If you reload the cups admin web-page it will now hopefully show you the hpijs
printer, with the NickName as in your foomatic generated file. (I don't know
if you have to restart cups to get this effect).
hope this helps,
Willem van den Ende.
