No, no, it's a perfectly reasonable question (especially considering the
Portage freeze) ... but it's not one taken well around here of late.

Well, the good news, then, is that you don't really need to wait at all
... the only difference will be in the installation; after that, "emerge
-ue world" will bring everything up to date. On the other hand, you're
on the same boat as the rest of us, stuck with old packages until the
freeze goes away. (That may actually have been fixed with the new
"~arch" stuff, but I haven't had a chance to do an rsync lately (long
story).)
