I've often found myself typing "nice -n19 emerge -u world" so I can go
about my business during large updates. I'm sure it'd be trivial to
throw a NICE value into make.conf (default it to 0) and auto apply it
to subsequent make calls.
Just a thought.

That's reasonable. Make an enhancement bug?
