[gentoo-dev] question installation(env-update;emerge rsyn)

hi!

I'm new user of gentoo distro
I try to install gentoo distro
but when I'm at

# chroot /mnt/gentoo /bin/bash
# env-update
Regenerating /etc/ld.so.cache...
# source /etc/profile
# 

I got this

#env-update
>>>Note: /etc/make.profile isn't available; an 'emerge sync' will 
probably fix this.
>>> Regenerating /etc/ld.so.cache

I've checked (ls -l /etc/make.profile -> 
../usr/portage/profiles/default-1.0)
but it's empty

and I got errors when I try emerge rsync or emerger sync

I followed the steps from the web

what should I do ?

oops !, I started from stage1-x86-1.1a
and I tried stage1-x86-1.2 too from ibiblio

and there is no link for '/etc/make.profile' file too

Have you configured networking? eg internet access?

The link should be created when you run "emerge rsync".  Did you
change /etc/make.conf so that the SYNC= line reads
SYNC="rsync:/rsync.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage" ?  (See the first
news item on www.gentoo.org for more info.)
