[gentoo-dev] removed wrong python build

Hi All,

I managed (selected the wrong thing in pkg-clean) to uninstall my latest
python2.2 which leaves my system in a bit of a nasty state. emerge
doesn't work. Luckily I had an old iso of 1.0 lying around so I've
reinstalled python2.2 from there and got emerge into a vaguely working
state. The only problem I have now is that doing an emerge portage or
just about anything else complains with (or the corresponding deps
file):

IOError: [Errno 2] No such file or directory:
'/var/tmp/portage/portage-1.8.18/temp/deps'

does anyone know a solution to this?? or how to generate these deps
files??

Hi

Maybe you can try the following?:

"mkdir /var/tmp/portage/portage-1.8.18/temp/deps && emerge python"
That's what i would do :o)
I think it'll reinstall a fully working python..

Um., Yeah, I tried that (with an emerge portage as well). But, it
complains that /var/tmp/portage/portage-1.8.18/temp/deps is a directory.
I don't suppose you could post your
/var/tmp/portage/portage-1.8.18/temp/deps file?

Interesting, I just checked my machine and
/var/tmp/portage/portage-1.8.18/temp/ is empty (i.e. no deps file or
directory).

Yep, you're right. I think the error was actually trying to tell me it
couldn't find the portage.py file for the version of portage that was
running (one using spython whereas the new one seems to use python2.2).
After putting in various links and compiling bits and pieces by hand -
so easy as the ebuilds are bash scripts - I've managed to get back a
working portage which will emerge itself!

Must be more careful with pkg-clean in the future!! I think thats twice
I've done that...
