Is it me, or is Netscape V4 horribly outdated?

It's probably either the table describing partitions or one of the <PRE>
sections. Whatever, I can't view the site in Netscape (4.77, Linux
2.2.19) without horizontal scrolling. This sucks.
<RANT>
Web pages that require horizontal scrolling suck. All web page authors
should check this against multiple browsers at multiple resolutions.
</RANT>
If I can't read this document comfortably I'm certainly not going to
install your distribution or tell others how wonderful it is.

It's also a closed source proprietary browser.....

It may be, but that doesn't help. Netscape is often the only browser
available on many machines (think RedHat 6.2 and people that don't
build their own software), and is even more often the only browser
worth using (not everybody has an Athlon 1000).
I feel his argument is valid. I just checked the website with
Navigator 4.08 and, while it seems fine to me, it is borderline
too wide.
Whether or not this is enough to necessitate changing the website
is not up to me to decide.

This is totally OT ...
For RH 6.2 users ... just download the current mozilla build from
http://www.mozilla.org. Switch to the classic theme if your machine is
resource strapped...
Another non-proprietary browser would be konqueror, which is part of KDE
and works well, even in older incarnations (although KDE3's version is
the best so far).
Or if you really like the proprietary NS version ... NS 6.2.2 will run
on RH 6.2 IIRC...but that's based on an older Mozilla version than
what's current and the newer mozilla is much better in general....
Then there is always opera (which may work on RH 6.2 if you use the
tar.gz/statically linked version)...
NS 4.X.X should die, die die ...
But that's only MHO ....
And it has nothing to do with what the gentoo website should or should
not do...

That is all true, but whether you guys like it or not, Netscape is the
most widely spread browser used under various flavours of Unix.

Since this was said, I have to continue OT and throw in my 2 cents. I
feel I need to thank the gentoo team.
I don't see anything wrong with the website. I think it definitely does
NOT suck. In fact, gentoo has the best documentation of any distro I've
used over the past 6 or 7 years. Its quick, to the point, and yet
somehow thorough.
Portage and ebuilds are awesome. My former FreeBSD and OpenBSD boxes
are both Gentoo now. Emerge==coolshit.
Thanks guys, Gentoo is amazing.
Thanks a lot,
Mike Hull
