Hi!

I have qmail ad my virtual/mta, but when I do a

emerge update --world --pretend

[ebuild N ] net-mail/ssmtp-2.38.14-r1 to /

As far I can tell from the qmail build it should PROVIDE virtual/mta, so
that's not the reason my ssmtp wanting to install.

Does anyone have any idea?

Yes. Your /etc/make.profile/virtuals file contains a line virtual/mta
net-mail/ssmtp

Change that line to say net-mail/qmail instead.

DEVELOPERS: It would be nice if /etc/make.profile/virtuals has either a
system where people could + / - exceptions to it, similar to how
/etc/make.conf and the USE line works now. As it is, everytime I do a
emerge --clean rynsc I have to edit /etc/make.profile/packages to make
my changes and /etc/make.profile/virtuals

Granted I could sever the symbolic link from /etc/make.profile to the
directory in /usr/portage/profiles/<dir>, but then I wouldn't get
updates that apply to it. Just something to think about.

Yeah, or stop forcing software, and have people choose it themself.

How about putting it in etc like make.conf?

I think that bug is fixed in the new, but unstable, version of Portage.
I actually thought it was fixed in the stable version, but if not
would you please report a bug?

Thanks!
