[gentoo-dev] German translation of documentation and site

Hi,

I use Gentoo for a time now, and it is real good work.

I like to do some engagement for this "great" distribution, and have the 
idea to translate the gentoo web site (inclusive documentation) into german.

Is this work appreciated? Does anyone work already on this project?

When I do it, whom should I mail the result? How should I begin (I think 
first read the XML project page of course)?

Any comments?

I like translated init-script messages. Is this possible? Mandrake 8.1 have this... mhh

Hi,

If someone is interested in it a friend and I would happily translate the
websites and possibly the documentation into Norwegian, if that isn't already
beeing done. Just say it, and we will do it ;)

I think it is, but how to integrate it into the portage system (in the 
ebuilds)?
With a language use variable and a easy to use standard procedure (for 
ebuild developers) in portage  perhaps?

Don't know. Is it possible to use gettext in shell-scripts? or do we
need to implement our own translation system? I like like gettext
externel files for each language. Each file have ID's do define which
text to use... and so on. Possible ask the mandrake developers :-)) he

Where we will get the source files from? Any idea? And where we should
post them afterwards. Nice could also be a language auto detection like
on ;-) www.mandrake.org. So the user don't have to switch manually to
his/her language.
