Hi,

I tried to figure out what this is for, but I seem to be missing something.
It seems to do nothing but to copy stuff from /etc/modules.d to
/etc/modules.conf and then run depmod -a.
What's the point in copying instead of using include?

just add whatever you need to a file in /etc/modules.d/

---------/etc/modules.d/sound-------------
alias sound-slot-0 sb
options sound dmabuf=1
alias midi opl3
options opl3 io=0x388
options sb io=0x220 irq=5 dma=1 dma16=5 mpu_io=0x330
---------/etc/modules.d/sound-------------

and maybe:

---------/etc/modules.d/eth---------------
alias eth0 eepro100
options eepro100 options=48
---------/etc/modules.d/eth---------------


than after running:

# update-modules

it will include those in /etc/modules.conf

Yes, I know that, but why are they _copied_ into modules.conf? They can be
included. modules.conf allows you to use the "include" statement.
I don't know if it acceps wildcards though.
However, if it does, there is no need for update-modules any more.
Just add "include /etc/modules.d/*" to /etc/modules.conf and run "depmod -a"
whenever you would have run update-modules.

I am guessing it was the easiest at the time, or back then
there was no include feature ?
