I use it, but I have a very old version of gentoo running on that
machine.
Maybe the package in the cvs tree requires older kernel sources in
/tmp/portage.
I will make a new version that uses the sources in /usr/src/linux. It
will be in the cvs-tree in abot an hour.

But we have no start stop scripts at the moment for isdn stuff. :-(

Hi!

I really need the isdn4k-utils package (mainly for vbox), but it seems to
be masked. What's the matter with it? Will it be available soon?
I don't have much time at the moment, but I am willing to help if I can.

BTW: isdn4k-utils needs tcl which seems to need X. Is there a way to get
around this dependency? Can tcl be built without X support?
I don't want to have X on a server that doesn't even have a monitor...

Greetings
Gert

isdn4k-utils depends on tk (according to the ebuild), which does depend
on X. Can isdn4k-utils be built without X? The ebuild is a little stale
so I am willing to take a look at it, but I don't use isdn. Would you
you be willing to test an updated ebuild?

hi

I have no idea why it is merged. I did setup a box the other day
though, which required isdn4k-utils, so I just unmasked it, and merged
it. Worked fine this side.

Box is up on the net and runnign fine. Only problem I did experienced
was that it disconnected every few seconds (had it to manual dial). To
fix this, I set the huptimeout to 9999999999 or something similar. You
can issue:

# isdnctrl huptimeout ippp0 999999999

I am thinking it could be a Driver problem rather than with the
isdn-utils, as the German people who did it, seems to use dial on demand
mostly ... could be wrong.

X is merged because of the "hard" dependency on tk in the DEPENDS. This
should be optional through a use. There should be a conditional X
dependency also for the X based utils such as xmonisdn.

The vbox utility seems to only depend on tcl. We really need to split
the "tcl-tk" USE variable into a "tcl" and "tk" USE variable to easily
handle situations such as this in the ebuild as there are other packages
that can be built conditionally against tcl and/or tk. Does anyone have
objections to splitting the "tcl-tk" USE?

I'm attempting to throw together an new isdn-utils ebuild with updated
syntax and conditional DEPENDS and configuration based on USE
variables. I would need help from isdn users and from a system
developer (need to configure netup and netdown commands).

NOTE: This package has a configuration just like the linux kernel. You
can already 'ebuild isdn-utils unpack', cd to ${S} and run 'make config'
to go through an interactive ncurses configuration (or alternatively,
just edit the .config file in ${S} manually with your favorite editor),
then continue with 'ebuild isdn-utils compile'; 'ebuild isdn-utils
install'; 'ebuild isdn-utils qmerge'

I will a commit a new isdn-utils ebuild and package mask it for testing
if someone doesn't beat me to it (like a motivated isdn user :)

Regards,

tod

Sorry, at work and typing too fast. Above should actually be: "I have
no idea why it is *MASKED*." This was done before my time, but like I
said, it seems to works fine.

Hello,

the isdn4k-utils are masked out. The only comment: broken
I just compiled the package and got isdn up and running without any problems.
Any comments what should be broken there? Is somebody already working on
this?

I created a little net.ippp0 script reading options from /etc/conf.d and it
works very fine. Could somebody help me putting this in an ebuild? A working
isdn package doesn't seem too difficult...

If somebody needs support for getting isdn up and running or needs somebody
for testing I could help him too.

Regards,
Frank

there are some people working on this. look on the bugzilla page.

http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=688

if you're not a cregistered user there, register you now. there you can upload
your files and comments.
