In this case I am sure you will be delighted to know that you can do: # cd /etc/conf.d # cat * > basic ---- OR ---- # cd /etc/conf.d # cat * > /etc/rc.conf Breaking things up, just generally helps with the packaging, but you can still only use /etc/rc.conf, or /etc/conf.d/basic for any of your rc-script config needs.
