Hello,
Many X apps currently install into /usr/X11R6. I understand they are all to
be moved into /usr, but would like to make sure that there shouldn't be any
exceptions.
I will begin changing ebuilds soon.

Here is a list of ebuilds that have 'X11R6' in their CONTENTS. This is
obviously incomplete, as I don't have everything installed.
Some of these may need to stay in X11R6, please tell me what these exceptions
should be.
I have omitted some things which I know should stay in X11R6.
x11-libs: gtk+, qt-x11, xforms, openmotif
media-video: xmps, xanim*, xmms*, mpeg2vidcodec, mplayer, xmovie, avifile,
bcast.
media-sound: xmms-*, grip.
net-print/qtcups
net-im/gaim
media-libs: gdk-pixbuf, imlib
net-ftp/gftp
net-irc/xchat
media-gfx: gimp*, imagemagick, blender
app-text: xpdf, acroread, gv
app-admin/usbview
x11-misc/ttmkfdir

OK, Verwilst and I have changed a great many ebuilds and will commit them in

Anything that is not Xfree86 itself goes in /usr. However, there are the
following exceptions. acroread and blender should go in /opt because they are
pre-compiled binary distributions. That's our new (more correct)
interpretation of the FHS rules.

Blender was and stays in /opt. It had "X11R6" in its CONTENTS because the
ebuild created a script /usr/X11R6/bin/blender to launch it; this script has
been moved to /usr.
I have moved Acroread from /usrX11r6 to /usr - that was easy; someone shuold
look at moving it to /opt/acroread. I may do it, but not today.

Shouldn't this be solved by adding a blender-file to /etc/env.d instead
that adds blender to the path instead of making a symlink into /usr?

Yes, acroread should go to /opt/acroread. As you say, lets do all the
other stuff first. :)
I will post a mail to this list with all changes that we've made during
this weekend when we are finished. Dan when you are finished could you
mail me a list of all changes and a description what users need to do to
use them when you are finished?
