In order to get gnome-print to emerge on my rc6 system, I had to
manually:

    mkdir /opt/gnome/share/fonts

Things then worked fine.

Hmm .. I heard someone else have this problem. I can't see what's
causing it. That directory gets created by gnome-print ebuild at my
system.

I'll add a todo for this and look into it.

I believe I've solved the problem. The installer Makefile was
instructing gnome-font-installer to install into /opt/gnome/share/fonts,
instead of the appropriate temp directory. A small change to the
Makefile seems to fix the problem. I committed my changes to cvs.
