Hi,

I noticed that the top level of the CVS tree has:

gentoo-src
gentoo-x86

It seems that the gentoo-x86 name doesn't make sense since this is
really the "ebuild" tree and the ebuilds are cross platform.

Wouldn't it make sense to change 'gentoo-x86' to 'gentoo-ebuilds' or
other name which more precisely describes what this directory actually
holds.

Is it a big hassle to change this name in terms of messing up everyone's
development setups perhaps?

Just wondering.

Greg

Unfortunately, CVS makes that a royal pain in the backside. I like CVS,
but it does make some things remarkably more complicated than it needs
to be.

gentoo started out as x86 only.
we've been lucky to aquire people who have experience
with other platforms, but the problem is that, like Grant
said, its CVS, and CVS just sucks when it comes to this
kind of thing. basically the hassle of doing so is not worth
it. plus, who knows what all else has come to rely on that
path. just accept it :)
