It seems this may have something to do with using an external CRT with the 
laptop. It hangs up whenever I try to switch betwen the CRT and the laptop's 
builtin screen. I can't elaborate right now, as I have to go, be back soon. 
Hope that sparcs up some ideas. I may try to downgrade my nvidia driver. Also 
I should start my console in 1024x768 again - haven't set that up yet.
