Hi all,
I've noticed that the new mailing lists (gentoo-ebuild and the team lists)
have been referenced on gentoo.org yesterday, and are in fact operational.
Should we start using them? Why hasn't there been an announcement? Are they
still "in testing"?

I've been too busy here to make an announcement yet. Here's a rundown of the
new mailing lists:
gentoo-ebuild is for submitting/getting feedback on ebuild submissions.
In addition, we have the following new lists:
server
desktop
system
tools
infrastructure
security
These lists are for our respective team members only.
Best Regards,

Could somebody run over the ebuild submission process for me? I hear
people mentioning "incoming", is that on an ftp server? How should
extra files be bundled with the .ebuild?
Thanks,
Aron

1. All submissions/discussion should be on the new "gentoo-ebuild" mailing
list.
2. To submit, post to the list with the ebuild and any patches etc. attached.
Note: don't attach the digests, we don't need them.
3. Give as much info as you can. Preferrably, the ebuild's name in the
subject line, and a short description of the package and any knwn problems
etc. in the body.
4. I (Dan Armak) am in charge of managing the ebuilds. I check the list at
least twice a day (usually much more often), reply with a cursory message and
add the files to incoming. The incoming dir isn't on ftp, it's in our cvs. I
also add a todo item to dev-wiki (look it up on www.gentoo.org if you don't
know what it is). the developers see the todo, and one who's interested can
"grab" it, verify the ebuild works, and add it to the main portage tree in
cvs.
If there are no problems with the ebuild (and sometimes if there are) you may
hear nothing further from the developers, check dev-wiki to see the progress
made. Eventually it will be handled.
Happy coding!

What's the difference between root and God ?
God doesn't think that he is root.

Does this mean that any "fixes" or errors also goes there?
What'll be the difference then between gentoo-dev & gentoo-ebuild?
FAQ Questions?

If the fixes/errors are related to an ebuild in incoming, or an ebuild that you
submitted that is in incoming, then it should go in gentoo-ebuild. Otherwise,
the main gentoo-dev list is ok.
