Hello

I have been experimenting with gentoo for the last 2 weeks
(complete feedback may follow if wanted) but now I have run
into serious problems:

I need to integrate the gentoo-machine into a yp/nis surrounding
which is using neither md5 nor shadow passwords.
ypwhich, ypcat -k passwd and getent passwd work allright
even C-calls to yield the right answer.

But I can't login/ssh into the machine as a non-local user.
In the syslogd I just get 'Failed password for...' and
'Failed keyboard-interactive for...'-entries.

This may be pam-related but our RedHat 6.2-Boxes using
a similar pam-setup work fine.

So has anyone already successfully set yp/nis & has some hints for me?

Many thanks in advance!

Tibor Rudas

It's working fine on my box. Did you add the NIS entry to your /etc/passwd,
/etc/group, and /etc/shadow files?

at the end of /etc/passwd you should have:
+::::::

at the end of /etc/group you should have:
+:::

at the end of /etc/shadow you should have:
+::::::::

You can insert stuff between the colons to regulate who can login and such,
but you should probably look at the manual to figure out how to do
that...this should at least get you running if that's what the problem is.

Regards,
